We were treated to an excellent talk given by Tony Kisby (volunteer RAF Snaith). Tony came along to give a brief history of RAF Riccall, as well as RAF Snaith and it’s roll in Bomber Command during WW11.
RAF Riccall was a training base for Halifax Bombers Mk1 and Mk 11. where about 1200 personnel were stationed. The average age of a pilot was 22 and a rear gunner avg age of 19. Tony outlined details of some of the accidents which occurred and over 70 aircraft were lost.
The role of RAF Snaith in Bomber command was explained together with some anecdotes of former crew based there.
It was a very interesting evening, and we thank Tony for sharing his research and knowledge.
