1838- Barlby & Osgodby choristers

A newspaper article in the York Herald dated 20 January 1838 reported on the Annual General Meeting and social event of the Barlby & Osgodby Choristers held at Osgodby Mill

Demonstration and Fete at Osgodby Hall – 1907

In the archives we have a photograph taken at Osgodby Hall in 1907.  Although there is an indication of what the event was – who were those people on the “stage”, and what was the demonstration about?

Research in the British Newspaper archives answers the questions!  This was a large event with speeches on topical political issues of the time.  One was regarding the proposed abolishment of the House of Lords by, the then Government, the Liberals.  That sounds very familiar – the debate goes on even to this day!
