The Lord of the Manor did not always reside at Osgodby Hall, and the property would have been leased or rented. It is well recorded that the Babthorpe’s (Lord of the Manor) resided at the Hall following it’s building circa 1580.

The early Baptism records in the 1600’s indicate residents at Osgodby Hall having children baptised at Hemingbrough Church.

During the time the Burdett family were owners of the Osgodby Hall and Estate, Church records show that between 1736 and 1758, John Haigh was living at the Hall, and the 1741 Poll Book collaborates his residence at Osgodby with freehold property in Selby.

In 1769 and 1771, Robert Huby was baptising his children at Hemingbrough Church and it was noted in the Parish Records he was “of Osgodby Hall” The owner of the Estate at the time was Elizabeth Burdett. The 1770 Terrier records confirms that Robert Huby was a tenant of the Estate farming 445 acres 1 rood 31 perches.
