Osgodby Village Institute is a registered charity run by a small Group of Trustees (Committee Management Team).
The Institute has served and supported the local community since 1930 following a grand opening. On 30 April 1931 the building was sold to the local community who raised £230 for its purchase. The building is held in Trust on behalf of the local community by three Holding Trustees.
During the 1950s the original committee appeared to lose interest in the building and it was rumoured it would be put up for sale. This caused an uproar and a meeting was held and a new committee was formed.
Over the years the building has continued to be refurbished with extensions in 1972, and in 1996 the building was re-wired, new roofs, toilets and kitchen. In 2014 Howdens Joinery kindly donated and refurbished the kitchen. In 2019, the main hall was refurbished.
The Institute was a centre of social activity with dances, whist drives, and at one time had a billiard team. The Institute continues to be a hub of social activity within the local community.
